When it comes to learning tools you want durable, affordable, and above all the best products you can find. These puzzle are just that. I am talking about The Learning Journey’s Match-It puzzles. The company makes an array of puzzles for spelling, math, and phonics. They are amazing and very affordable at around 10$. However, I must admit that I found many of ours at local discount sellers like TJ MAXX for 1/2 (or lower) the price. They are still worth the investment thou.
This is their spelling puzzle, it is for 4 year olds and my son LOVES this puzzle. We lay it out on the kitchen table and he makes the words and tells me what they are. He is “reading” the words as he creates each puzzle word. This is the first step in reading comprehension, it is an important skill to foster in your budding readers. As a suggestion I would have a small copy of the alphabet with you on the table or if you have a large wall poster sit near it when you complete the puzzle. It will be helpful when your child cannot find a particular letter and this way you can say “find a B” instead of giving them the piece. My son also sometimes forgets what certain letters look like, like S or T and I have found having the alphabet on our wall very handy. I like verbal prompting him because he uses 3 skills instead of just receiving the missing piece. He hears the letter, sees the letter, and later identifies the letter himself. This is a great product, you can find it at Amazon, EBay, or Education Toy Planet.
