Interactive activities for learning our ABCs is important for young learners. Today my middle son, Oli, was working on his ABCs. I like to use books when teaching most subjects, so we read Dr. Seuss’s ABC. We have been working with our letters the whole year , identifying them and tracing them. So for our activity we used the book , magnetic ABCs (upper case preferably), and a cookie sheet. I placed the letters (not in order) and while I read each page he was to find the pages letter on his cookie sheet. It was a nice way to build on the book because it uses letter identification verbally and visually.
a side note: I am saving phonics for next year and reading until 1st grade(unless he desires to learn of course). Reading is so important and a skill that must carry on through life that I feel building slowly on pre-reading and reading skills is best.
